Dogs and Cats Tweet Their Way to BarkWorld Expo

Introducing BarkWorld Expo, a Social Media Conference and Expo for the Online Pet Community

Atlanta, Ga. March 10, 2010 –  Calling all social media-savvy pet owners that use Twitter and Facebook to translate barks and meows for their furry family members: you are invited to the first annual BarkWorld Expo taking place August of 2010 in Atlanta!  This is the first event of its kind created for pet owners who use social media as well as the businesses that market to this audience.

Spanning a weekend full of activities which include a charity pet fashion show – BarkWorld Expo will provide a forum for the online pet community to meet face-to-face, network and hear from seasoned social media enthusiasts and pet experts alike.  Third party directories show there are over 69,000 pet profiles on Twitter.

“I created BarkWorld because as a new pet owner I was struggling on how to be part of the online conversation and how to find useful information about pet products and services,” says BarkWorld Expo founder Denise Quashie.  “Once my dog, Frankie Beans, started tweeting I was thrown into a virtual world of charity fundraisers, doggy birthday parties, dog vs. cat banters and a lot of really funny, creative tweets.  My goal was to find a way to take this online concept to the next level, engage the local community, animal enthusiasts and pet-care businesses to create a truly focused pet conference and expo.”

After calling on seasoned pet tweeters like, Lynn Haigh of PawPawty.com to serve on the BarkWorld Expo advisory committee, Quashie put together a three-day event full of unrivaled opportunities for the pet community. "I’m excited to be a part of the great event and to be able to meet up with virtual friends, old and new, who have a passion for and a love of animals" says Haigh.

Day one of BarkWorld Expo will educate entrepreneurs, organized businesses and non-profits on how to successfully brand, market and manage their businesses on Twitter, Facebook and other social media applications.

Day two will feature talks from some of the most famous faces behind those anipal tweets and an expo hall filled with local and national pet-care businesses focusing on products, services and non-profit associations.  The highlight of the exhibit hall includes PetTech, a technology pavilion showcasing pet-related iPhone apps and other tech products and toys.

The last day of BarkWorld Expo will feature a charity fundraising pet fashion show that will showcase the latest trends in pet wear and packaging.

Leading up to the big event will be a series BarkUp Charity TweetUps® to help raise money for pet charities.  “Connecting social media anipal parents together for some dog play, networking and charity fundraising is what BarkWorld Expo is all about” says Quashie.  “We also plan to engage the entire pet community, using TweetUps to raise money for local and national pet charities.”

The call for exhibitors, sponsors, speakers and pet fashion designers is currently live.   In addition, there are virtual opportunities for those unable to attend the Atlanta event in person.  For more information about BarkWorld Expo, visit http://www.barkworldexpo.com/ or follow us at http://www.twitter.com/barkworldexpo.
